Lazio club president Claudio Lotito announced today that “Simone Inzaghi has retreated in his decision to sign a new contract to remain coach of the club,” before his expected move to coach Inter Milan, the Italian champions, to succeed Antonio Conte.
On Thursday, Inzaghi confirmed his departure from Lazio, making the 45-year-old coach on his way to coach Inter.
Lotito was not happy with the way Inzaghi, who had spent 22 years at Lazio as a player and coach, had handled the situation.

Lotito told Calcumercato: “I was disappointed on a personal level, he changed his mind within hours, the contract was already ready and I signed it, and Inzaghi was scheduled to meet with the secretary to sign it as well but he never showed up, he told me that he decided to leave, and we spent 7 hours. Together and we reached an agreement together before his final decision. ”
The Lazio club president added: “He told me that he has no more motivation to continue, and he will not be able to arouse the players’ desire to shine. When someone says that, how do you think about keeping him? If he had told us this a day earlier, we would not have prepared the contract for
Inzaghi took over as coach of Lazio in July 2016, and has led him in 242 matches, knowing that his contract expires next June.

Inzaghi led Lazio to win one Italian Cup, two Italian Super Cups, and during his 242 matches, the team won 129 times, tied 43 times, while losing 70 times.
Reports have previously linked Italian Inzaghi, who is 45, to coach Juventus and Napoli, but it appears that he is close to leading Inter Milan.
