“While I’m not big on New Year’s Resolutions, I do think the new year is a time to reflect and plan for the year ahead. Here are a few ways to jumpstart your marketing goals in the new year without the pressure of a 365-day resolution breathing down your neck.”
1. Take Some Time Alone to Reflect
The place WHERE you reflect isn’t as important as actually setting time aside from your daily routine and thinking back on the previous year. What did you learn? What did you do well? What could have gone better? Where do you want the company to go this year?
Sure, a park or a beach is always a good option for quiet reflection, sometimes an opportunity presents itself that isn’t so picturesque. it or not, I spent some time listening to music in an airplane seat last week and just went to town on 2023 planning. I had just taken a few days off and had been in new surroundings, so my mind was ready to plan and get excited about what I had in mind for Elysium in 2023. Sometimes you just need to grab the opportunity and run (or fly) with it.
2. Set Goals – Both Personal and Professional
There’s no better time than a fresh new year for some fresh new goals. Depending on your growth and learnings from last year, some goals may carry over, but most will be new.
Spend some time thinking about what’s important over the next twelve months. Is it driving customers to your website? Increasing reviews on your Google My Business? Sending more emails? Working on your Search Engine Optimization? There are a whole host of goals that fall under marketing and figuring out what makes the most sense for your business will ensure you are tracking the money you’re spending and getting the best return on your investment. For example, keywords for my business include “Website Design Philadelphia, PPC Agency Philadelphia, SEO Agency Philadelphia, Logo Design Philadelphia.’
3. Ensure that Your Website is Where it Needs to be
The beginning of the year is a wonderful time to take stock of your website. Sometimes things need a refresh and that’s okay. So, ask yourself some questions to know if your site is still working FOR you and not against you.
Does it have a good user experience? Is it aesthetically-pleasing? Does it truly reflect what you do and how you do it? Does it FEEL like your brand?
According to HubSpot, “websites influence 97% of clients’ purchasing decisions.” Essentially if the website doesn’t capture attention right away, prospects and leads will bounce and head to a competitor’s site. It’s that simple.
At the very least, you need to say yes to all of the following to ensure your website is working as hard as it should for you:
● Clear description of what you do and how you do it
● A captivating homepage that catches the eye with gorgeous imagery or a helpful video
● Imagery that is professional and on-brand
● Branding that is modern and makes you look sharp
● Content that is SEO-optimized and informative
● Quick load speed
● A mobile-ly responsive website on all devices
4. Create an Impactful Marketing Plan
To reach those goals you set above, you absolutely 100% need a strong marketing plan. Marketing changes daily, so having the right people overseeing your marketing is crucial. If you have a one-person marketing team, think about outsourcing or using an agency to complement their skillsets. There’s literally no way that one person can be skilled enough or have the time to do all the company marketing creative, social media marketing, copywriting, SEO, SEM, email marketing and so much more. One person simply cannot do All The Things and do them equally well.
Ensure that you start the plan with your goals and KPIs in mind. From there, figure out big picture goals for each quarter. Decide what’s worked for you in the past that you want to continue and what hasn’t that you will stop. If you work with a marketing agency, discuss with them what their plan for you is based on your 2023 goals. Aside from the normal marketing you’ve done, figure out what your budget is for trying something new. As I mentioned, marketing is ever changing so your target market might be more responsive on a new platform using new messaging. You will never know if you don’t try, and a new year is a great time to try new things.
